Overview

A five-day journey into Khentii, the green homeland where Genghis Khan was born, riding horses along the Onon River beneath the sacred Khan Khentii range.

Khentii is the cradle of the Mongol nation: a land of rolling grassland, dense taiga forest and slow-moving rivers where, according to the chronicles, Genghis Khan was born and spent his youth. This five-day trip follows his story across the green northeast of Mongolia, far from the desert images most travellers expect.

You will travel by road from Ulaanbaatar into the Khentii countryside, visit landmarks tied to the rise of the Mongol Empire, ride horses across open valleys, and spend nights in traditional ger camps and with a nomadic herding family. Along the way you cross meadows fed by the Onon River and look up at the wooded slopes of the Khan Khentii range, long revered as sacred ground.

This is an information-only itinerary designed around inquiry rather than instant booking. Distances are large and the roads are mixed, so the pace is relaxed and built around the landscape, the history and the people who still live as herders here.
