About Tour to Mongolia
We are a small inbound travel company based in Ulaanbaatar, helping travellers explore Mongolia the way it deserves to be seen. Every journey we plan is shaped around your interests, your pace and the seasons of the steppe.
Who we are
Tour to Mongolia is an inbound travel company with its office in Ulaanbaatar, the capital and starting point for most journeys across the country. We design and operate trips for independent travellers, families and small groups who want to discover Mongolia's landscapes, nomadic culture and history. Because we live here, our plans reflect what is actually possible on the ground rather than a polished brochure version of the country.
Our story and mission
We started Tour to Mongolia because we love sharing our home with curious travellers and we were often asked the same questions: when to come, where to go and how to travel responsibly across such a vast land. Our mission is simple. We want to make Mongolia accessible and rewarding to visit, while supporting the herder families, drivers and small ger camps who make these journeys possible. We would rather plan one trip well than rush many.
Our local guides and team
Our guides are Mongolian and know their regions first-hand, from the dunes of the Gobi and Yoliin Am to the forests around Lake Khövsgöl, the Orkhon valley near Kharkhorin and the high Altai of Bayan-Ölgii. They speak English and can introduce you to herder families, monasteries such as Erdene Zuu, and the rhythms of daily nomadic life. Our small office team handles the planning, logistics and the many practical details that make a trip run smoothly.
How we plan your trip
Mongolia is enormous and distances are long, so good planning matters. A drive between regions can easily take several hours over unpaved tracks, and weather changes quickly. We build realistic itineraries with sensible driving days, comfortable overnight stops and time to actually enjoy each place. If you want to be in the countryside for Naadam (11-13 July) or to experience Tsagaan Sar in late winter, we will plan around those dates with you.
Our promise
Every itinerary we offer is tailored. We start from your wishes, then suggest routes, seasons and a pace that fit. We do not charge booking fees, and we are clear about what is and is not included before you commit to anything. We will give you honest advice, even when that means recommending a shorter trip or a different season than you first had in mind.
Travelling responsibly
The steppe, the Gobi and Mongolia's national parks such as Terelj and Khustai are fragile, and nomadic hospitality is real, not a performance. We ask travellers to tread lightly, work with local drivers and camps, and respect the families who host them. Supporting local livelihoods is part of how we want tourism in Mongolia to grow.
Planning your visit with us
We work on an inquiry basis rather than instant online booking. Tell us roughly when you would like to come, how long you have and what you hope to see, and we will reply with ideas and a suggested plan. There is no obligation, and we are happy to answer questions before you decide anything.
